Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Corsairs will host Lassen on Saturday.
By Ray Hamill — All four local college basketball teams will be in action on Saturday afternoon, including a pair of games here on the North Coast.
The College of the Redwoods men will try to keep rolling when they host Lassen at 1 p.m., as they inch closer to a third straight Golden Valley Conference championship.
The Corsairs are 5-1 in conference and one win clear of the chasing pack with four games remaining.
Next week they travel to play at Siskiyous and Butte before returning home to close out the regular season against Feather River, the only team to have beaten them in conference play.
Butte remains the Corsairs’ closest challengers with a 4-2 conference record, with Siskiyous, Lassen and Feather River deadlocked in a tie for third with identical 3-3 records.
Lassen is 7-14 overall, while the Corsairs are 21-3 and ranked No. 12 in the state.
The CR women are 1-5 in conference and 6-17 overall, while the Lassen women are 1-5 and 10-13, with the winner on Saturday moving out of the basement in the standings.
Their tip off is set for 3 p.m.
Both Cal Poly Humboldt teams, meanwhile, will head to Chico State as each remains in the hunt for the postseason.
The women play at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
Despite losing five of their last six games, the Humboldt men are tied for third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings.
The Jacks are 8-7 in conference (10-11 overall) and deadlocked with both Chico and Sonoma State, four wins back of second-placed Cal State San Marcos.
The Jacks have seven games remaining and the top six teams in conference will qualify for the CCAA Tournament.
The Humboldt women are 7-8 in conference (9-10 overall) and seventh in the standings.
But the Jacks are getting hot at an opportune time and have won three straight games, including a 61-45 win at Stanislaus on Thursday night.
