COLLEGE BASKETBALL — CR men bounce back; Cal Poly men lose again

The Corsairs jumped from third to first in the Golden Valley Conference standings with a huge 73-62 win at Lassen in men’s basketball one Saturday afternoon.

Two days after losing at Feather River, the College of the Redwoods men responded in style and handed the Cougars their first conference loss.

With Feather River also losing 98-70 to Siskiyous on Saturday, the 3-1 Corsairs now sit alone atop the standings, followed by Lassen (2-1) and Feather River (3-2).

No immediate stats were available for the Corsairs, but the win lifts them to 19-3 on the season.

Next up, the Corsairs return home to host Siskiyous on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Cal Poly Humboldt men, meanwhile, lost on Saturday, falling 101-76 at conference leading San Bernardino.

The Coyotes opened up a 23-point lead by halftime and never looked back, handing the Jacks a third straight loss.

Humboldt is now 9-9 overall and 7-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Next up, the Jacks will host San Francisco State on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

In women’s action on Saturday, both CR and Cal Poly Humboldt lost their road games.

The Corsairs fell 75-51 at Lassen and dropped to 1-3 in the GVC with their third straight loss.

They are 6-15 overall.

The Cal Poly women, meanwhile, also fell at San Bernardino, losing 64-58.

The loss was the fifth straight for the Humboldt women, who are now 4-8 in conference and 6-8 overall.

Next up, the CR women will host Siskiyous on Wednesday at 7 p.m., while the Cal Poly women will host San Francisco State on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
