By Ray Hamill — One former Fortuna Husky is enjoying a big debut season on the collegiate basketball courts.
Isobel Crosswhite, a 2022 Fortuna High graduate, is averaging a double-double for the College of Marin women’s team, and has been a force on both sides of the ball.
“She’s one of our strongest players and one of our hardest workers,” Marin head coach Emily Schaefer said of the former H-DNL standout earlier this season. “She’s an incredible teammate and a super intelligent student.”
She also leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 12 points a game and pulling down 10.5 boards.
Interestingly, she is one of three local players playing for the Mariners this year, along with former McKinleyville Panthers Victoria Claros and Kaylee Armstrong.
All three players are playing a key role and have started the majority of games for the Mariners, who are 11-8 on the season and 3-4 in the Bay Valley Conference heading into a Friday night showdown against Merritt.
Claros is averaging 8.7 points and 3.2 boards, while Armstrong is averaging 4.3 points and 4.1 rebounds.
