By Ray Hamill — Both the Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods men’s basketball teams will hit the road this weekend as they look to keep their conference championship ambitions alive.
After splitting two home games last week, the Lumberjacks will play at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday night and at conference leaders Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday afternoon.
The Corsairs, meanwhile, will play at Feather River on Thursday and at Lassen on Saturday in a pair of games against other conference contenders.
The CR men are 18-2 on the season and have won back-to-back home games against Shasta and Butte to begin conference play.
But the two-time defending Golden Valley Conference champs will be tested this weekend against two teams that also have two conference wins each.
Feather River is 2-1 in the GVC and 4-15 overall, while Lassen is 2-0 and 6-11, with the top spot in the standings possibly on the line in Saturday’s game.
The Corsairs play at 5 p.m. on Thursday and at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The CR women will also play at Feather River and Lassen on the same days at 7 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
The Corsairs are 1-1 in conference play after opening with a victory over Shasta and then losing to GVC favorite Butte.
Feather River is 2-1 in conference and 13-5 overall, while Lassen is 0-2 and 8-10.
The Cal Poly Humboldt men, meanwhile, are now 7-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (9-7 overall) and in a three-way tie for second in the standings, along with Cal State San Marcos and Sonoma State.
Pomona is 4-5 and 7-6, with Thursday’s tip off set for 7:30 p.m., while San Bernardino is 7-1 and 12-2, with Saturday’s game scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Cal Poly Humboldt women will also play at Pomona and San Bernardino on Thursday and Saturday, as they look to snap a three-game losing streak.
The Lumberjacks, who play at 5:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, are 4-6 in conference and 6-8 overall.
Pomona is 8-2 and 11-3, while San Bernardino is 3-7 and 8-8.
The Humboldt women fell 70-68 to San Marcos at Lumberjack Arena last Saturday, while the men fell 68-63, also to San Marcos.
