Academy of Arty Athletics – Jadence Clifton in action for the Urban Knights.
Jadence Clifton is quickly adapting to her new surroundings and is enjoying a big season playing for the Academy of Arts women’s basketball team.
The former Del Norte Warrior transferred from Cal Poly Humboldt this season and has had an immediate impact with her new team, including scoring a season-high 22 points in a 66-52 win at Chaminade on Tuesday.
The points tally was the second most in her collegiate career, surpassed only by the 24 points she scored against Chico State while playing for the Lumberjacks last season.
The former Big 5 MVP has started all 14 games for the 4-10 Urban Knights and leads them in minutes per game (34.2), assists (39) and steals (32).
She is also second on the team with 11.4 points a game and is averaging a third-best 5.1 rebounds, both averages well up from last winter.
Clifton, a sophomore guard, transferred to play for the Division-II San Francisco school after leaving Cal Poly Humboldt for personal reasons last year.
She was recruited by Knights assistant coach Scott Meredith, an Arcata High and Humboldt State graduate.
It was the second time Meredith recruited the local standout, after originally offering her a scholarship to play for him when he was the head coach at Oregon Tech, before she opted to join the Lumberjacks.
The Urban Knights compete in the PacWest Conference and are 4-5 in conference play, including three wins in their last four games.
They play at Hawaii Hilo on Thursday night.
