The Ferndale boys basketball team tipped off the Little 4 with a 76-58 win over visiting Hoopa on Friday night, and they did it with one of their most complete performances of the season.
Senior Jack Westfall was instrumental once again and finished with a game-high 32 points, as the Cats got their 10th win of the campaign and improved to 1-0 in the L4 and 10-4 overall.
“He was lights out all night,” said head coach Tristan Waters, who aded “It was fun watching him take over the game.”
The home team took advantage of a deep team performance, with several players stepping up.
Thomas Fergison finished with 16 points and “did a great job creating shots off the dribble and finding his teammates all game,” while Kannon Christiansen added 11 points.
“He probably doesn’t realize how good a basketball player he is,” Waters said of Christiansen. “Kannon always locks down the paint and is always a force offensively inside as well.”
The tenacious Trent Titus also scored 11 points in the win.
“We can always count on Trent’s high motor to be in full effect,” the head coach added.
The Wildcats capped a strong team performance with a dominating fourth quarter, outscoring the visiting Warriors 26-11 for the period.
“It was one of the few games this year that we played a complete game,” Waters said. “I think we showed how we can play the game fluidly as a team offensively as well.”
With the loss, the Hoopa boys dropped to 0-1 in league and 4-9 overall.
No stats were immediately available for the Warriors.
The Cats are now 3-0 at home this season.
