The Eureka and Ferndale girls basketball teams each won their respective tournament openers on Thursday night.

The Loggers made it three straight wins with a 53-20 victory over Pittsburg in a late-night game at the Maria Carrillo tournament in Santa Rosa.

With the win, Eureka improved to 6-1 on the season.

The high-flying Loggers will try to make it four straight wins when they continue tournament play against San Marin at 8:30 p.m. on Friday night.

The Mustangs come into the game with a record of 4-2 after beating Analy 50-24 in their tournament opener on Thursday.

The Ferndale girls, meanwhile, also won at the Trinity Holiday Classic.

The Wildcats defeated Redding Christian 50-31 and improved to 2-1 on the season.

This is Ferndale’s first tournament of the season.

Earlier in the week, the Cats got their first win of the season, 61-16 over Potter Valley.
