Both College of the Redwoods teams were in action on Thursday night with mixed fortunes.
The CR men opened their own Coach Treggs Classic with a 70-63 win over Sierra and improved to 11-1 on the season.
Trey Neff scored a team-high 26 points in the win, while Jon Nchekwube added 16 points.
“Sierra played wonderfully tonight,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said. “They had a great plan and carried it out with toughness. We are very fortunate to escape this game with a win.”
Ty Neff added 13 points in the win, while Niko Zambas added nine points with three early 3-pointers jumpstarting the offense.
The Corsairs will play Mendocino on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Redwoods women, meanwhile, dropped their opening game at the Shasta tournament, falling 63-55 to San Mateo.
Gracie Betts scored a team-high 12 points in the loss, as the Corsairs dropped to 2-6 on the season.
Kendall Stewart added 11 points and Lily Hoban finished with 10 points.
The Corsairs continue tournament play against Consumnes River at 2 p.m. on Friday.
