
The Huskies improved to 2-1 in boys basketball with an 83-48 victory over South Fork in a fast-paced physical game at Fortuna on Tuesday night.
Alfonso Medina and Russell Pascascio each scored 21 points in the win, while teammate Donald Bickle added 18.
The game was the season opener for the Cubs, with Tommy Rothbergs getting the new campaign off to a flying start and finishing with a game-high 22 points.
“It was our first game of the season and definitely don’t have our legs yet, but we had flashes,” head coach Taylor Morrow said.
Shevy Bero-Vanmeter also had a good game for the Cubs and finished with 12 points, while teammate Jesus Duron chipped in eight points.
The Huskies also won the JV game, defeating South Fork 51-22, while in freshman action, Fortuna defeated Arcata 34-32.
The Fortuna varsity team will play at the Wheatland tournament later in the week, opening against Willows on Thursday.
The Cubs play at the McArthur tournament, tipping off against Modoc on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Fortuna girls also won on Tuesday night, defeating South Fork 67-33 to go to 2-0.
