Corsairs to host a bowl game at the Redwood Bowl

Ray Hamill/

By Ray Hamill — The Corsairs returned to the football field with a bang this year, and they’re not done yet.

On Sunday, it was announced that College of the Redwoods will host a bowl game against Monterey Peninsula on Dec. 3.

The game will be played at the Redwood Bowl, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.

It is nothing more the Corsairs deserve after a successful campaign that saw them win seven straight games on their way to a second-placed finish in the American-Pacific 7 Conference.

And they did it with a team that featured just one sophomore after the program had been suspended for the 2020 and 2021 seasons for budgetary reasons.

Head coach Jason White and his staff have done a phenomenal job developing a roster of freshmen and getting them up to speed at the collegiate level.

They’ve also been an exciting team to watch play this year, with several close games and a fun brand of football.

The passing game has been particularly impressive in recent weeks, with former Fortuna Huskies quarterback Max Hough doing a good job directing the offense along with a deep pool of receivers that have grown stronger as the season has progressed.

The Corsairs closed out the regular season with a loss at Feather River on Saturday to end their seven-game winning streak.

They finished 4-1 in conference play and 7-3 overall.

Monterey Peninsula finished the season 5-4, including a 38-24 loss to the Corsairs at the Redwood Bowl in September.
