
The Corsairs had to work hard to win their opening game at the Mendocino College tournament on Thursday, but they kept their impressive start to the new season going strong with a 73-60 over Sacramento City.
Jon Nchekwube scored a team-high 18 points in the win, Trey Neff added 17 points and Jett Cheong 15.
Ty Neff also played a big role down the stretch and chipped in 11 points while playing composed in crucial moments.
“We had to grind one out today over a very good team,” head coach Ryan Bisio.
With the win, the CR men improved to 7-0.
The Corsairs will continue tournament play against Los Medanos on Friday at 5 p.m.
The Redwoods women, meanwhile, were also in action on Thursday, dropping their tournament opener at the Sierra College tournament.
The Corsairs fell 74-63 to Chabot.
Rachel Valdez scored a team-high 22 points, while teammate Kendall Stewart added 15 points.
The Corsairs, who dropped to 0-4, will play Yuba on Friday at 3 p.m.
