Aidan Ayers was one of several Ferndale Mustangs to impress in Sunday’s Six Rivers Conference AAA championship game in Crescent City.
The Mustangs defeated the Redwood Beasts 40-16 for the championship, which was their second straight.
Ayers, an eighth grader, provided one of the defensive highlights of the day with a huge hit fro his cornerback spot.
“He’s one of the smallest kids on the team and he locked down their 6-4 receiver,” Mustangs offensive coordinator Nathan Coppini said.
Ayes is also a standout wrestler who has trained with Cass Bell at the Institute of Combat in Arcata and has already earned a reputation as a weight room stud.
According to his father Bruce, the young Ayers is deadlifting twice his body weight.
He displayed that strength with his big hit in Sunday’s game.
