Two NCS doubleheaders set for the North Coast this weekend

By Ray Hamill — Both Eureka and Arcata will host North Coast Section soccer playoff doubleheaders this weekend.

On Friday night, the Eureka boys and girls teams will play their quarterfinals at Albee Stadium, while on Saturday afternoon, both Arcata teams will host their quarterfinals on their new field.

The Eureka boys are seeded No. 4 in the Division-1 bracket and will host No. 5 Fortuna at 5 p.m.

This will be the third meeting between the two league rivals this season, with the first ending in a 1-1 tie and Eureka taking the second 2-0.

Following that game, at 7 p.m. the No. 1 Eureka girls will play No. 8 Fort Bragg or No. 9 Del Norte, who play their opening round game on Wednesday night.

Fresh off their league championship, the Arcata boys  are seeded No. 2 in Division 1 and will open on Saturday at noon against either No. 7 Del Norte or No. 10 Lower Lake, who meet on Wednesday afternoon in Crescent City.

The Arcata girls will then play their opener at 2 p.m, with the No. 3 seeds hosting No. 6 Clear Lake.

Dates and times have also been finalized for some other local teams involved.

In Division-1 girls action, No. 7 Fortuna will play at No. 2 Credo on Saturday at 5 p.m., while No. 5 McKinleyville will play at No. 4 Middletown on the same day at 7 p.m.

Three other local teams will also compete in the NCS playoffs on Wednesday.

In Division-3 girls action, No. 2 St. Bernard’s will host No. 3 Mendocino at 3:30 p.m., while No. 4 Ferndale will play at No. 1 Upper Lake at 7 p.m.

In Division-2 boys action, No. 11 South Fork will travel to play No. 6 Bentley at 3:30 p.m.
