NCS VOLLEYBALL — Two H-DNL teams open the playoffs on the road

The North Coast Section volleyball playoffs got under way on Tuesday night with two local teams in action.

In Division 3, the Eureka Loggers fell in four sets at Archie Williams, while in Division 5, the Hoopa Warriors fell in three sets at Clear Lake.

Eureka overcame a slow start to make a game of it on the road against the No. 4 seeds, eventually falling 25-8, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22.

Senior standout Mariah Napoleon finished with a team-high 14 kills and one block in the loss, while teammate Maeghan Hampton added seven kills.

Aniah Gaither added four kills and a block and Anisha Rechelluul had 15 assists and three aces.

“Really proud of them for never giving up and making this such a fun season to coach,” head coach Stephanie Napoleon said.

The Hoopa girls, meanwhile, were seeded No. 15 in their bracket and fell 25-12, 25-9, 25-18 against the No. 2 seeds in the bracket in Lake County.

Four more H-DNL teams will be in action on Wednesday night, including Del Norte and St. Bernard’s, which will each host games at 7 p.m.

The Warriors are seeded No. 6 in Division 4 and will host No. 11 Healdsburg, while the Crusaders are seeded No. 8 in the Division-6 bracket and will host No. 9 Holy Names.

The Arcata girls also qualified in Division 4, and the No. 10 seeds will open at No. 7 St. Patrick-St. Vincent in Vallejo, while the Ferndale Wildcats are seeded No. 10 in Division 6 and will play at No. 7 Anderson Valley.
