VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — Big 4 league MVP will be a tough choice

By Ray Hamill — It was business as usual and then some for the Eureka Loggers on Saturday, as the Big 4 champions came away from Arcata with one of their most impressive wins in some time.

This has been an Intense and close-fought rivalry in recent years with little between the two teams, but the Loggers have left no doubt as to which of them is the better team right now and they followed a 4-0 win over the Tigers earlier in league play with a commanding 6-0 victory on Saturday.

They have rolled over their opponents this season, with McKinleyville the only team to score on them in their past 10 games.

And what’s most frightening for their opponents right now is the fact that the majority of Eureka’s key players are not yet seniors and this team should only get better next year.

Perhaps the most intriguing question surrounding the team right now is which of the many standouts will be named league MVP this year.

It will be a tough vote.

Head coach Tommy Learmouth also deserves plenty of credit for having this year’s team focused and playing as a cohesive unit every game.

They played one of the best games of the season on Saturday and came away with one of their best results in recent years.

And that gives them a well-deserved league championship with three of their nine games still remaining.

Congratulations to Eureka!

Check out some of our video highlights from the game above, including four of the Loggers’ goals and a brilliant long pass from Kaitlin Giacone to set up teammate Saedra Joseph for the opening goal.

Arcata goalkeeper Kyndle Eisner also made some big saves for her team.
