SOCCER ROUNDUP — Eureka, Fortuna tie; Warriors win again

File photo – The Eureka Loggers, pictured in action against Arcata during a recent game, tied the Fortuna Huskies on Tuesday night.

The Fortuna Huskies salvaged a share of the spoils thanks to a second-half goal from Aristeo Herrera in an H-DNL boys soccer showdown at Eureka on Tuesday evening.

Herrara’s strike helped the Huskies overcome a one-goal halftime deficit and secure a 1-1 tie.

Will Mooney had given the home team the lead from the penalty spot in the first half.

Herrera, Adrian Magana and Cody Collins all played well for the visitors, who lifted their game after the interval.

Also in action on Tuesday, the Del Norte boys continued their impressive start to the season with a 9-1 win over St. Bernard’s in Crescent City.

Greyson Franklin had a hat trick in the win, while Deken Hanks scored twice.

Gabe Howard, Mario Ledezma, Yahir Alanis and Jacob Ramsey each also scored for the Warriors.

Afterwards, head coach David Sanyaolu paid tribute to the Crusaders for the way they played the game.

“Kudos to all the St. Bernard’s players for the good spirits they showed throughout the game,” he said.

Isaiah Herbst scored the Crusaders goal, while goalkeeper Kohlton Hall played well between the posts, according to Sanyaolu.

League play continues on Thursday.

The Warriors will try to keep rolling when they visit Eureka, while Arcata travels to play at McKinleyville.

Both of those games are set for 6 p.m.

In girls action, meanwhile, the Big 4 gets under way on Wednesday evening.

After a series of lopsided games between the Big 4 and Little 4 teams over the past few weeks, the action will be far more competitive over the coming weeks.

Kicking things off, Eureka plays at McKinleyville and Fortuna plays at Arcata.

Both games are set for 6 p.m.
