The Eureka Loggers kept their impressive start to league play going with a straight sets win over Fortuna in Big 5 volleyball on Wednesday night.
After opening with a four-sets win at McKinleyville last week, the Eureka girls kept the momentum going despite missing some key players.
The Loggers won 25-14, 25-13, 25-23.
“I am so proud of our team,” head coach Stephanie Napoleon said. “They stepped it up with players out. Everyone came together and they were really dialed in.”
Senior Mariah Napoleon had a big night on her birthday and finished with 10 kills, five aces and two blocks.
Maeghan Hampton added nine kills and a block, while Aniah Gaither chipped in seven kills and two blocks.
Other players also stepped up in what was a balanced team performance.
Bridgette Dunn added three blocks and a kill, while Josie Montana and Natalie Rogers each finished with 10 assists.
Montana also had four aces.
Tehya Tuttle and Sierra Mendoza both also had a solid night defensively on the back row.
The loss was the second in two days for the Fortuna girls, who dropped to 0-2 in league play.
Eureka is now tied for the Big 5 lead along with Del Norte.
