POWER RANKINGS — Friday’s big local matchup will be telling

By Ray Hamill — None of the top three teams in the rankings got a win over the weekend, as the Del Norte Warriors retain their hold on the top spot.

The Warriors fell 21-7 at South Medford, but are still clearly the best team on the North Coast right now, as we head into week four of the season.

St. Bernard’s, meanwhile, moves up one spot for the second straight week despite having a bye over the weekend, as the Eureka Loggers dropped to 1-1 with their first loss of the season at Ukiah.

The Crusaders and Loggers will face off at Albee Stadium on Friday night, which will give us a better indication as to which of them deserves to be No. 2.

Hoopa remains at No. 4 after getting back to winning ways with a big second-half performance at Fort Bragg on Friday night, while McKinleyville remains at No. 5 after a strong showing in a loss at Willits.

The Panthers are one of the most intriguing stories right now, with the potential to be pretty good this year and a defense that has allowed just three points in two games.

We’ll know more about this team after a challenging game at home to University on Friday.
