The Fortuna Huskies scored on their opening three possessions on Friday night on the way to a 34-18 win at Kelseyville that saw them snap a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
After losing a heartbreaker 6-0 at Justin-Siena last week, the Huskies responded in style and came out ready to go against the Knights.
Junior Chad Mussey got the start at quarterback and set the tone for his team early, scoring on back-to-back possessions in the opening quarter.
Mussey opened the scoring on a 13-yard run to cap an 87-yard drive on Fortuna’s first possession and found the end zone again on a five-yard run later in the quarter.
Senior Coltyn Corning took over at quarterback and connected with Will Stringer on a 20-yard TD pass early in the second quarter.
It was the first TD of the season for Stringer who also nailed four PATs.
After the Knights cut into the lead with their opening TD late in the first half, the Huskies added a fourth touchdown on their first drive of the second half, this time on a 47-yard pass from Mussey to Tegan Rumley.
The Huskies, who looked in control throughout, added a fifth TD on a 26-yard run by Quinn Hall, which was his first score of the year.
The Huskies, who are now 1-2, finished with 314 yards total offense including 198 yards rushing.
They will play a fourth straight road game next weekend when they travel to Ferndale for the highly-anticipated annual Milk Can game.
Kelseyville dropped to 0-2.
