Ford leads the way on opening day, as Tigers dominate

The Arcata girls got the new H-DNL golf season off to a winning start on Wednesday, placing five in the top seven.

Playing at Beau Pre Golf Course in McKinleyville, the Tigers were led by senior Morgan Ford, who paced the field with a round of 98.

Teammate Sagen Sarchett was just one stroke back, with McKinleyville’s Sofie Sundberg rounding out the top three with a round of 100.

The Tigers’ depth was too much for the rest of the league.

“I was really happy with the way the girls played,” Arcata head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “Our girls played hard and did a good job. We’ve got a good little group.”

Arcata’s Avery Meadows shot a 106 for the fourth best round of the day, followed by teammate Iris Conrad and Eureka’s Mia Lopez, who each shot a 114 to tie for fifth.

Arcata’s Amaya Urquidez was next best with a round of 115, with teammate Gracie Christian (120) in eighth and Eureka’s Illeah Brannon and McKinleyville’s Neyr’res Bartoo tied for 10th with rounds of 123.

As a team, Arcata shot a 417 to comfortably place first, with Eureka (484) in second and McKinleyville (497) in third.
