By Ray Hamill — The Eureka Loggers scored touchdowns on three of their four opening drives on Friday night, as they cruised to a 30-0 victory over the Arcata Tigers at Albee Stadium.
Check out some of the early highlights above, including all three first-half touchdowns.
Rogan Bode got the scoring started on a one-yard QB sneak late in the first quarter, with teammate Daniel Garcia-Hall adding two TD runs in the second quarter.
The Loggers led 21-0 at halftime and that was more than enough for a team defense that held on for the shutout after the break.
It was a particularly encouraging performance for the Loggers after a tough and disappointing 2021 campaign that was plagued by COVID setbacks.
And it was a composed performance by the Eureka players with the exception of a couple of penalties.
“I really felt we executed better than I anticipated,” head coach Mike Marcelli said. “I really felt we did things right for most of the first half.”
With the win, the Loggers improved to 1-0.
They have a bye next week before traveling to play Ukiah on Sept. 9.
A young Tigers team will try to bounce back when they host Sutter next week.
