Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team to open on the road

Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics – Julia Humphreys is one of several key returning players for the Jacks this fall.

The Cal Poly women’s soccer team will kick off the new season on the road this week against a pair of Division-II opponents.

The Jacks will open on Thursday night at Fresno Pacific, before heading to San Rafael to play Dominican on Saturday afternoon.

After finishing 4-10-4 last season, including a 1-8-2 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, the Cal Poly women will be hoping for a better return this fall.

To do so, they will need better offensive production after averaging less than a goal a game in 2021.

The good news for the Humboldt women is that leading scorer Kendal Spencer is back and the senior will be eager to build on the four goals she scored last season.

Defensively, the Jacks were solid last year, allowing just 1.27 goals a game, including four shutouts.

Goalkeeper Marisol Camargo is back between the posts and should provide a solid last line of defense after posting a 1.93 goals against average and a .788 saves percentage.

Also back this season are Kelsey Bess, Brooke Weese, Mia Castaneda, Poppy Cartledge, Julia Humphreys and Erin Mohr.

Fresno Pacific was 3-12 last season, while Dominican was 5-8-3.

Thursday’s game is set for 7:30 p.m., with Saturday’s kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Jacks’ home opener is set for Thursday of next week against William Jessup at 4:30 p.m.
