Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Eel River All-Stars in action at the Area tournament in Ferndale on Friday. The Eel River 11-year-old Little League All-Stars will play for the Section championship on Monday night.

The Eel River players took care of business on Saturday with their second win in as many days at the four-team tournament at Fireman’s Park in Ferndale, defeating Chico Eastside 4-0. And they did it with some outstanding defense.

“Our defense played really well,” manager Brandon Long said. “We turned a couple of double plays that were pretty cool.”

Teyler Bailey and Jarren Biondini combined on the mound, with Bailey throwing the first four innings, before Biondini came in to seal the win.

“Teyler did excellent. He really sent the tone and kicked some butt,” the manager said. “And Jarren just absolutely dominated. He closed the game out really well.”

Mason Long also made some key plays behind the plate, while Kayden Crawford made big-time back-to-back catches in left field in the sixth inning to help secure the victory.

Tegan Dalton also had several big put-outs at first base as he continues to impress at the position.

“Every time they got runners on base, we just made good plays on defense,” Brandon Long said. “It was nice to win a game like that. We didn’t score a ton of runs but we still won the game.
