By Ray Hamill — The Hoopa Warriors will play for a little bit of history on their own field on Friday.

After qualifying for the North Coast Section Division-5 softball championship game with a 3-0 win over Head-Royce on Tuesday afternoon, the Warriors received word later in the day that the game will be played on Friday at 5 p.m. at Hoopa High.

The No. 1 seed Warriors are 21-5 on the season and will play No. 2 St. Helena (17-7), which is coming off a 2-1 win over Clear Lake in the second semifinal on Tuesday.

A victory for the Warriors would give them a seventh all-time section title in the sport, which would be more than any other H-DNL school.

The Eureka girls will also play in the NCS Division-3 championship game after a 5-0 win over Maria Carrillo inter semifinal on Tuesday.

That championship game will take place at Washington Elementary School and the Loggers will play either Pinole Valley or San Rafael, who meet in Wednesday night’s second semifinal.

The date and time of the weekend championship will be finalized after Wednesday’s semifinal.

A third NCS championship game will also be played locally on Saturday, with the St. Bernard’s boys hosting Credo in the Division-6 baseball decider at Crusader Field at 1 p.m.

A fourth championship game could also be played locally this weekend, with both McKinleyville and Del Norte hosting Division-4 softball semifinals on Wednesday night.
