VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — A classy gesture in defeat speaks volumes

By Ray Hamill — If it’s true what they say about a player’s true character being revealed in defeat, then at least one Eureka Logger should be commended for the way he acted after his team lost to rivals Arcata in the Charlie Lakin Championship game on Saturday night.

Junior Myles Standish has been a force both on the mound and at the plate all season long for the Loggers, but it was his actions after the disappointing 11-2 loss to the Tigers that stand out as much as the way he has handled himself on the field.

Despite the disappointment of the loss, which cost the Loggers a chance to host a North Coast Section playoff game this week, Standish went out of his way to congratulate several Arcata players individually on their victory.

Check out the video highlights of the moment above.

The Loggers will open the playoffs on Tuesday night at Las Lomas, while the Tigers will open at home on Saturday against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
