The Eureka Loggers comfortably took care of business in their Charlie Lakin Tournament opener at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday, defeating South Fork 11-1 in five innings.

Caden Vance hit a walk-off three-run home run to end the game early and set up a highly-anticipated semifinal showdown with St. Bernard’s on Thursday night.

The in-form Vance finished 2-for-3 with the home run, a double and four RBIs, while teammate Jackson Giacone was 1-for-2 with a triple and scored three runs.

Richard Reeves also had a good day at the plate and walked three times on his way to scoring twice, while Abel Lopez finished 2-for-3 with a double and Rogan Bode was 1-for-3 and scored four runs.

Cooper Ohlsen got the win on the mound, pitching four innings and giving up just two hits and two walks and striking out six.

The South Fork Cubs, who dropped to 10-13, will now turn their attention to the North Coast Section playoffs, which get under way next week.

Thursday night’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m., although any weather delays will push the game back to Friday.

St. Bernard’s defeated Eureka 7-2 last month in the teams’ only prior meeting this season.
