The Hoopa Warriors solidified their status as the top-ranked Division-V softball team in the North Coast Section with a big non-league road win on Monday.
The Little 4 champions traveled to play the Clear Lake Cardinals, who are the No. 3 team in the section, according to MaxPreps, and they came away with a 4-2 win.
The Warriors, who out-hit the home team 10-4, scored twice in the top of the seventh to break a late 2-2 tie.
With the win, which was their seventh straight and 11th in their last 12 games, the Warriors improved to 18-4 on the season.
Savannah Colegrove was instrumental once again for Hoopa, getting the win in the circle and also finishing 3-for-4 with a double.
The senior pitcher struck out 12 in the victory, while allowing four hits and three walks.
Jewely Bibancos also had a big day at the plate and finished 3-for-4, while Hannah McCullough was 2-for-3.
Tatianna Colegrove and Bella Valentine each added a hit for Hoopa, while Clear Lake’s Lilianna Cruz struck out eight in the loss.
The Warriors are the defending NCS Division-V champions, having won the program’s sixth section championship in 2019, which was the last time the NCS held playoffs.
They will now turn their attention to the H-DNL Charlie Lakin Tournament, which begins on Wednesday.
As league champions, the Warriors are a No. 1 seed and will have an opening-round bye before playing either McKinleyville or St. Bernard’s on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Arcata Sports Complex.
The Hoopa girls will find out their NCS playoff seed on Sunday.
