H-DNL golfers tune up for Sections with impressive tournament

The Eureka Loggers celebrate their team win in Weed on Monday.

St. Bernard’s sophomore Jack Kramer had one of his best rounds of the season at the Lake Shastina golf tournament in Weed on Monday, and he wasn’t the only local golfer to impress.

Playing in cold and windy conditions, Kramer shot a 75 to take first place on the day, while the Eureka Loggers placed first in the team event just days after clinching the H-DNL team championship.

H-DNL champion Talon Vigil shot an 85 to lead the Eureka boys, while teammates Julian Goodman and Jerome Lyons each shot an 86.

Rounding out a strong team showing, Andrew Stewart shot an 87, Nate Hill a 95 and Wyatt Zerlang a 98.

The team scored five of the six golfers for a combined 439, which was an impressive 22 strokes better than second-placed University Prep of Redding.

The strong showing by the H-DNL golfers comes at a perfect time, with the North Coast Section playoffs on Monday.

In addition to the league champion Loggers, Arcata’s Mason Alway and Beck Pedersen, McKinleyville’s Mitchell Lyell, Del Norte’s Kai Russell and St. Bernard’s Kramer have all qualified for the Section tournament, which will be held at Valley of the Moon in Santa Rosa.
