Vigil, Loggers crowned league champions in boys golf

Talon Vigil and the Eureka Loggers capped a dominating spring in H-DNL boys golf with another big performance this week on their way capturing the league championship.

Competing at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course, Vigil posted low score for the third time in seven league rounds, shooting a season-best 75.

The victory secured the league title for the Loggers sophomore, who finished a comfortable 26 strokes ahead of the rest of the H-DNL.

The Loggers also comfortably took the team championship with six golfers placing in the top 15 in the season standings, including Julian Goodman, who finished fourth.

Eureka finished 108 strokes ahead of Arcata in second, followed by Fortuna, McKinleyville and Del Norte.

Fortuna’s Lucas Senestraro had the second best round this week, shooting a season-best 79, followed by Goodman and Del Norte’s Kai Russell, who each shot an 80, and Eureka’s Andrew Stewart, who shot an 82.

St. Bernard’s Jack Kramer was next best with an 83, followed by Arcata’s Mason Alway (84), Eureka’s Nate Hill (85), Arcata’s Beck Pedersen (85), and McKinleyville’s Mitchell Lyell (88).

Trevor Hunt (91) paced South Fork and Littlefoot Williams (122) led Hoopa.

The All-League awards go to the top seven in the season standings.

Kramer placed second, followed by Alway, Goodman, Lyell, Pedersen and Russell, with five different schools represented in the top seven.
