By Ray Hamill — The Big 5 might not be decided next week after all.
A Saturday baseball doubleheader between Arcata and Del Norte in Crescent City has been postponed because of the field conditions, and those games will now be played on Monday, May 9 at 3 p.m.
That means next week’s big series between the Tigers and league-leading Eureka Loggers won’t be the final games of the season and it means the league title might not be officially determined until the following week.
However, Saturday’s postponement does not take from the excitement and anticipation of next week’s three games between the two frontrunners.
It also means both the Loggers and Tigers will have their full complement of pitchers available for such a crucial series.
The Loggers are 9-0 in league play after sweeping a Friday doubleheader against Fortuna and winning both games by just one run, while the Tigers are 6-1 with the two games at Del Norte in hand.
Next week’s series gets under way at Bomber Field in Eureka on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. and concludes with a doubleheader hosted by the Tigers at McKinleyville High School next Saturday.
