Arcata’s Mason Nichols hit a key two-run home run over the weekend and Fortuna’s Joey Quen pitched seven strong innings as the Corsairs won a three-game series at home to Siskiyous.

Nichols’ blast highlighted a 4-1 win in Friday’s series opener, before the visitors responded to win 3-2 on Saturday morning.

Quen then led the way on the mound in a 6-4 win in Saturday afternoon’s series decider.

“It was good to see our guys compete again and find a way to get the job done after being down early,” head coach Andrew Aiello said. “We’re trying to build on momentum and finish the season strong.”

Ray Fellows also was instrumental in Friday’s win, pitching 8.1 strong innings and not allowing any earned runs.

Shad Jones also pitched well in Saturday’s loss, allowing just two earned runs in seven innings, but he got little help at the plate.

Quen allowed two earned runs in the series decider, with Grant Lasserre coming in late for his second save of the weekend.

Nichols stayed hot at the plate in Saturday’s win and 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Taylor Steig finished 2-for-4 and barely missed out on two home runs, according to his coach.

Zach Cole drove in a pair of runs, while Jake Agarwal and Evan Stauch each drove in one.

The Corsairs, who improved to 5-18 in the Golden Valley Conference and 11-25 overall, will close out the season with a pair of games at home to Shasta on Wednesday and Thursday.

Siskiyous dropped to 2-19 and 8-25.
