By Ray Hamill — After a break in the action last week, the Big 5 and Little 4 are set to resume in baseball and softball this week.

We hope.

With rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, however, the weather is likely to affect some of the upcoming games, although as of Tuesday evening nothing has been confirmed.

The Arcata and McKinleyville baseball game for Wednesday afternoon is still on, according to Arcata head coach Troy Ghisetti, although the Eureka and Del Norte game in Crescent City is in doubt, with the field not looking good, according to Del Norte coach Roger Schultz.

These four teams are also scheduled to play doubleheaders on Saturday, with only a very slight chance of rain forecast for the weekend.

In softball, it remains to be seen if the Eureka girls’ scheduled trip to Hoopa for a non-league game will go ahead on Wednesday, with rain forecast.

The Loggers’ Big 5 game at Del Norte on Tuesday was rained out, with the two teams hoping to make up the game on Friday afternoon before playing a doubleheader in Eureka on Saturday, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The Arcata and McKinleyville girls are also scheduled to play a three-game series this week, although Thursday’s scheduled opener remains a doubt.

In the Little 4, meanwhile, Hoopa’s baseball game against Etna on Tuesday was postponed until May 3.

The Warriors are scheduled to play doubleheaders in softball and baseball at St. Bernard’s on Saturday and it appears as if the weather will cooperate.

A Wednesday softball doubleheader between St. Bernard’s and Ferndale is also still on, according to the SB coaches, and scheduled to go ahead at the Bear River sports complex at 2 and 4 p.m.

Likewise with a Thursday baseball doubleheader between Ferndale and South Fork, which is still on as of Tuesday evening, although that could change.

Stay tuned for updates on all the local games.
