By Ray Hamill — Get ready for a big couple of weekends for local MMA fans, with two Humboldt County natives gearing up for big fights.
On Friday night, Tyson Miller will fight for the second time at a Bellator event when he faces off against Rhalan Gracie in San Jose, while next weekend Louis Cosce will return to the cage for the first time in 17 months when he fights Preston Parsons at UFC Fight Night 205 in Nevada.
Miller is 2-0 as a pro, including a first-round win over Albert Gonzales at Bellator 226 in his pro debut in September 2019.
The former Eureka high wrestler, who fights out of the Institute of Combat in Arcata, has fought once since then, defeating Luis Conde-Navarro with an unanimous decision at XFC Young Guns II in May of last year.
This weekend’s event will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose and Miller will fight Gracie in a welterweight fight as part of preliminary card, with featherweights A.J. McKee and Patricio Pitbull headlining the event.
Miller’s fight will be broadcast live on YouTube and Pluto TV, with the 10-fight preliminary card getting under way at 4 p.m.
Gracie is 0-3.
Cosce, meanwhile, will make his much-anticipated return to the cage at the UFC fight night featuring former UFC women’s strawweight champion Jessica Andrade and Amanda Lemos.
Cosce, a former Hoopa High wrestler, will take on Parsons as part of the preliminary card, which will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Cosce, who fights out of the Lost Boys gym in Arcata, is 7-1 as a pro and has not fought since suffering a third-round loss to Sasha Palatnikov in his UFC debut in November of 2020.
Earlier in 2020, Cosce defeated Victor Reyna with a first-round TKO at the Dana White Contender Series to earn a UFC contract.
Parsons is 9-3 as a pro.
