A couple of young players stepped up for South Fork on Friday as the Cubs defeated Potter Valley 12-2 in baseball.
Freshman pitcher Jasper Shafer impressed on the mound and pitched all five innings for the win, finishing with five strikeouts and no walks.
“He kept the ball down today and threw a lot of ground balls,” head coach Chris Contreras said. “Really excited with how well he is progressing as a pitcher.”
Sophomore Broc Contreras led the way at the plate and was 4-for-4 with a double, while also scoring three of his team’s runs and driving in two more.
Junior John Harding also impressed and was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
The win was the Cubs’ third over an NCS Division-VI opponent this week and will help solidify their seeding in the division.
South Fork is now 7-7 and ranked second in NCS Division VI, according to MaxPreps, trailing only No. 1 St. Bernard’s.
The Cubs will have a week off for spring break next week, before hosting Fortuna on April 20.
