Del Norte girls sweep Fortuna, take over sole possession of B5 lead

The Warriors completed a big week on the softball fields with a doubleheader sweep at home to Fortuna on Saturday, while stretching their winning streak to five straight.

The Del Norte girls won 6-2 in game one and then edged the Huskies 6-5 in a close-fought nightcap.

With the two wins, the Warriors improved to 3-0  in the Big 5 and took over sole possession of top spot in the standings.

In game one, McKenna Curtis got the win in the circle, allowing just three hits and one walk in four innings and striking out two.

Shortstop Josephine Heuberger continued to be a force for the Warriors and finished 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, while Curtis rounded out a good all-around game by going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Shay Nolan pitched two solid innings in relief and got the start in game two, with Curtis also throwing two hitless innings in relief for the win.

Heuberger remained hot at the plate and added two more base hits, including a triple.

Younger sister Alexis Heuberger, a sophomore, also had two hits in the win and drove in two runs, while fellow sophomore Reece White was 2-for-3 with a double.

Then Warriors are now 10-3 overall.

Fortuna dropped to 0-3 in the Big 5 and 9-4 overall.
