Good day for Mattz, as Del Norte boys win their season opener

Del Norte’s Brody Mattz pitched four strong innings and five of his teammates had multiple hits, as the Warriors rolled to a comfortable 13-2 win in six innings over visiting Hoopa in both teams’ season openers on Thursday.

Mattz got the start on the mound and didn’t disappoint, holding the visitors to just one hit and no walks, while also striking out eight.

Sophomore Collin Tromble led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-4, while William Bommelyn and Cole Blackburn each was 2-for-4 with a double.

Freshman Preston Daniels and senior Isaac Arriola each also impressed and finished 2-for-2, with Arriola hitting a double.

Ethan Thomas pitched two innings in relief to help seal the win, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out five.
