It was a disappointing night for College of the Redwoods basketball on Thursday, as both the men’s and women’s teams lost in the NorCal playoffs.

The No. 14 seeded CR women fell 67-43 at No. 3 City College of San Francisco, while the No. 14 men lost 88-64 at No. 3 College of the Sequoias.

Makaila Napoleon scored a team-high 19 points for the women, while teammate Ashley Quigley finished with 12 points.

The Corsairs matched the San Francisco women through the opening two quarters and the teams were tied 26-26 at halftime.

The home team, however, began to take control midway through the third quarter and held a seven-point advantage heading into the final period, before pulling out to a 15-point gap a few minutes later.

The CR men, also matched their opponents through the opening half and were just three points adrift at the interval.

But the Giants began to pull away early in the second half and had stretched the gap to 20 points eight minutes in.

The losses, however, do not take from another memorable season for both CR teams.

The men were crowned Golden Valley Conference champions for the second straight season, the first time the Corsairs have achieved back-to-back championships in the program’s 55-year history.

They close out 21-6.

The women, meanwhile, placed second in conference and close out 18-10.
