Several Corsairs feature among the state leaders in track and field

An impressive start to the new track and field season continued for the Corsairs at the NorCal Preview Invite at Chabot College over the weekend.

Most notably, Hannah Hartwell continued her impressive start to the new season with another strong showing.

Hartwell placed first in both the 800m (in a time of 2 minutes, 18.3 seconds) and 1500m (4:39.35) and is now ranked first in the state in both events.

Brianna Green also won both the 200 meters (25.39 seconds) and 400m (58.57 seconds) and is now ranked second in the state in the 400m and fourth in the state in the 200m.

Nathan Witte also won the 400m in 54.64 seconds and currently ranks first in the state, while Chance Hefter placed second in the discus with a throw of 43.63m and is sixth in the state in the event.

Not to be out-done, Kyle Byrne was second in the 800m in a time of 1:57.28, which ranks him fifth in the state, while teammate Ian Bennett finished fourth in a time of 1:58.07, which ranks him eighth in the state.

Other CR athletes also impressed at the weekend meet, including Adriannan Slaybaugh, who placed third in the javelin with a throw of 29.07m, as well as Kallie Schoenbachler, who finished eighth in the discus with a PR of 30.57 meters. 

In the men’s javelin, Deagan McClary placed seventh and Dennis Petrus was 11th, while Tai Bolden set personal records of 11.83 seconds in the 100m and 23.9 seconds in the 200m.

Larry Tracy also set a pair of PRs in the 400m (53.20 seconds) and the 200m (23.84 seconds).

Kristin Bonomini also broke her old PR by three seconds in the 800m (2:33.37) on her way to placing eighth.

Maggie Stacy equaled her PR in the 800m, while Wyatt Wheetley set a new PR in the 800m and Thomas Becannon had a PR in the 1500m.
