VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — A memorable night for the Loggers and Tigers

By Ray Hamill — The H-DNL basketball season officially concluded on Friday night, as the Arcata boys and Eureka girls were crowned 2022 Dick Niclai tournament champions.

The Tigers defeated McKinleyville 68-44 in the boys decider and the Loggers defeated Arcata 68-61 in the girls championship.

The Niclai win was the second straight for the Eureka girls, after winning the tournament just once in the previous 25 years.

The Tigers’ championship was their first since 2017.

  1. Will that picture be the last within the confines of the J. W. Gymnasium…🤷‍♂️

Congrats to the victim student athletes… being shafted is an emotional roller coaster ride…

…as a supportive fan, still smh for not being allowed onsite at games…

Too bad players view school sports as a popularity symbol…and don’t rise up and strike…

…personally, the way school administrations act is a disqualifier for even having school sports…the student athletes are the reason school sports even exist…maybe athletes need to reorganize amongst themselves and play their sport in a league not affiliated with education…

…some say schools need the student athletes more than the students need a sport because the motivation to play sports is a key contributor to elevating GPA scores… and GPA scores have a direct financial linking to the school…
