By Ray Hamill — The Ferndale Wildcats are the favorites to win this year’s Dick Niclai girls basketball tournament, according to a Humboldt Sports readers poll.

A total of 42 percent of votes cast went to the Ferndale girls, who are 7-0 against H-DNL teams this season.

The Eureka Loggers, who are the Big 5 champions, came in second in the poll, pulling in 31.6 percent of votes.

The St. Bernard’s Crusaders placed third in the poll with 11 percent of the votes.

The Dick Niclai tournament gets under way on Monday night, with St. Bernard’s hosting Hoopa and McKinleyville playing at Arcata.

The semifinals will be held at No 1 seeds Ferndale and Eureka on Thursday night.
