The college of the Redwoods men’s basketball team pulled out a double-overtime victory on the road on Saturday to keep pressure on conference leaders Shasta.

The Corsairs won 92-84 at Feather River and improved to 5-1 in the Golden Valley Conference with their fifth straight win.

“A compelling and gutsy road win for us,” is how head coach Ryan Bisio described it.

Jon Nchekwube was instrumental again and finished with a team-high 25 points, as was Zac Claus, who finished with 21 points.

“Zac is a big game hunter, and now that it’s February his appetite is ripening,” Bisio said of the standout sophomore.

Bradley Wills added 13 points and Donald Willis had 11 points, as the CR men overcame a 37-31 halftime deficit on the way to the win.

The home team was missing some players.

“They played their hearts out,” Bisio said of Feather River. “They played very well and deserve bucket loads of credit.”

The Corsairs return home to plays Shasta (6-0 in conference) in a key showdown on Wednesday, the first of two matchups against the Knights within a week and a game that will have championship implications.
