Del Norte and McKinleyville will get to do it all over again on Tuesday in Crescent City.

On Friday night, the Panthers edged the Warriors 42-38 in both teams’ Big 5 finales in boys basketball, leaving both tied for second in the league standings with identical 5-3 records.

The two rivals, who split the league series, will meet again in four days in the opening round of the Dick Niclai tournament, with a coin flip handing Del Norte the No. 2 seed and home court for the big showdown.

McKinleyville’s Owen Hamm and Del Norte’s Nani Scott each scored a game-high 11 points, as there was little to separate the two teams for much of the night and just two points between them in the dying seconds before Cody Whitmer nailed two clutch free throws to help seal the win.

Hamm also nailed a key 3-pointer late in the game, while teammate Jack Clancy finished with nine points and Connor Alto chipped in six.

The Panthers close out the regular season 13-7.

Edwin Zepeda finished with nine points for the Warriors, who lost their second close game this week and are now 15-6 overall.
