The Corsairs kept pressure on conference leaders Shasta with an 87-75 win in men’s basketball at Lassen on Thursday.

Drew Gillette led the way offensively with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, as the College of the Redwoods men won their fourth straight conference game to go to 4-1.

“Drew really got us going in the second half with a string of 3s,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “His focus and composure led us tonight. He was so, so good offensively.”

The in-form Jon Nchekwube had another big game and added 18 points in the win, while Donald Willis scored 17 and Bradley Willis 16.

“We felt our mortality tonight and did not panic one bit,” said Bisio, whose team led by one at halftime. “We stayed the course and never wavered. Lassen played well, and as all teams who come out here know, it is not easy to play in this venue.”

Zac Claus also had a good game.

“Zac closed the game for us with some very important and difficult plays,” Bisio said. “Even though he only had seven points in the game, it’s probably the loudest seven I’ve ever heard.”

The Corsairs improved to 14-5 overall and will continue a busy week when they play at Feather River on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Shasta is 5-0 in conference.
