VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS — League champs achieve goal No. 1

By Ray Hamill — Goal No. 1 for the season has been achieved, and now it’s time for the Loggers to turn their attention to goals No. 2 and 3.

On Thursday night, the Eureka girls secured their first outright Big 5 championship in at least a couple of decades with a composed performance in a 63-58 win over Arcata.

The win lifts the Loggers to 6-1 in the Big 5 with just one game remaining, and moves them three wins clear of the chasing pack.

After closing out league play against McKinleyville next week, the Loggers will then try to defend the Dick Niclai championship they won two years ago, the last time the H-DNL postseason tournament was held.

That’s goal No. 2.

And after that, the Loggers are hoping to play deep into the playoffs and qualify for the NorCal tournament, which is goal No. 3.

It’s been a very successful season so far for the Eureka girls, but they still have plenty more to play for in the coming weeks.
