Rotbergs leads the way as Cubs take over sole possession of L4 lead

Tommy Rotbergs continued his outstanding season on Thursday night, as the South Fork boys won for the third time in four Little 4 games to take over sole possession of top spot in the standings.

Rotbergs scored a game-high 24 points for the high-flying Cubs, who won 73-42 at home to Hoopa.

“He is playing so great right now,” South Fork head coach Taylor Morrow said of Rotbergs. “He’s been super coachable and has grown so much this season.”

Oliver Tatton also continued to impress and finished with 15 points in the win, while Shevy Bero added 10 points and four assists and John Harding had seven points and four assists.

The Cubs, who are now 9-2 overall, have two league games remaining, including a second game against Hoopa and a key matchup against St. Bernard’s.

Thursday’s game was just the second for the Warriors in the last 48 days, and the team was unable to even practice last week because of COVID protocols.

“We came out rusty,” head coach Roman Hutt said. “And South Fork came out hard and they were hitting their shots.”

Ben Hunsucker had a good night for the Warriors and paced them offensively with 15 points, while Brendan Baldy added 10 points.

“Benjamin kept us in the game as best he could,” said Hutt, whose team is now 1-1 in the Little 4 and 2-9 overall.

The two teams will meet again in Hoopa on Monday.
