A shorthanded College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team fell 90-75 at Las Positas on Thursday.

The Corsairs, who were missing starters Donald Willis and Drew Gillette through injury, got a balanced performance with five players scoring in double digits.

But unfortunately that wasn’t enough to topple the No. 6 team in the state, which improved to 13-1.

“Las Positas’ size, speed, strength and 3-point shooting were just too much to endure,” CR head coach Ryan Bisio said. “Especially without two of our starters.”

Brandon Lucas scored a team-high 22 points in the loss, while teammate Mason Railsback added 14 points and Jon Nchekwube 12.

OcTavion Williams also had a good night with 11 points, while Bradley Willis finished with 10.

“We’re disappointed in the result,” Bisio said. “We’re equally excited about some things we unlocked offensively today.

“Brandon, Mason and OcTavion played with major confidence against a very good team. This bodes well for us moving forward.”

The Corsairs, who are No. 23 in the state, are now 10-4.

A scheduled Friday afternoon game against Monterey Peninsula was cancelled due to COVID issues with the Monterey program.
