The College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team capped a big few days offensively with another impressive showing on Friday.

The Corsairs followed a 104-point performance at Reedley on Wednesday with a 106-80 win at Merced on Friday, as they won their third straight and improved to 8-2 on the season.

“We really came to compete today,” head coach Ryan Bisio said. “We played with great tempo and dug in defensively. Everybody came in and was ready to contribute.”

Donald Willis scored a game-high 28 points in the win, while Drew Gillette added 21 points and Jon Nchekwube 17.

The points total was a second straight season-high for the team.

“It was a fitting performance to cap off a really fun road trip,” Bisio added. “We’ve hit a growth spurt after enduring a little pain along the way.”

Bradley Willis added 13 points in the win, while Brad Johnson rounded out a balanced team performance offensively with 10 points, giving the Corsairs five players in double digits in scoring.

Next up, the Corsairs will travel to play in next week’s Santa Rosa tournament, where they are the defending champions.

They open against Yuba on Thursday.
