The McKinleyville boys got the new basketball season off to a winning start at Hoopa on Tuesday night, defeating the Warriors 67-59.
Owen Hamm scored a game-high 21 points in the win, as the Panthers opened up a 12-point half-time lead and held on down the stretch.
Brandon Baldy also scored a game-high 21 points to lead the way for the Warriors, who were far more competitive than in Friday’s opener against Arcata after welcoming back a number of players who missed that game because of college trips.
Carson Parker added 16 points for McKinleyville, while Jordan Brown chipped in 13 and Connor Alto eight.
Lane Campbell and Jonathan Martinez each also scored nine for Hoopa, while Brian Gulley scored eight.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 1-0 on the new season, while the Warriors drop to 0-2.
