By Ray Hamill — Two local teams had big statement wins on the opening night of the North Coast Section football playoffs on Friday.
In Crescent City, the No. 2 seed Del Norte Warriors comfortably took care of business against No. 7 Archie Williams in Division 5, winning by a score of 49-6 and setting up a semifinal showdown at home next weekend.
Arcata also won big in Division 6.
The No. 2 Tigers dominated San Lorenzo to win 44-0 and also move onto next weekend’s semifinal round.
In Division 7, McKinleyville fell 48-6 at St. Helena and Hoopa lost 40-0 at Clear Lake.
In the eight-person bracket, the South Fork Cubs were forced to forfeit their quarterfinal against Calistoga because of COVID protocols.
The NCS playoffs continue on Saturday, with St. Bernard’s hosting De Anza at 1 p.m.
