By Ray Hamill — The St. Bernard’s girls are now officially the most successful H-DNL soccer program when it comes to the North Coast Section playoffs, but they may not be alone in top spot for very long.
On Wednesday night, the Crusaders clinched the NCS Division-III pennant with a 5-2 win on the road at Upper Lake, which was their second straight section championship.
It was also the program’s fourth ever NCS title, with the SB girls also winning back in 1999 and 2003, and it gives them one more section championship in the sport than the Fortuna boys.
That, however, could change again when the Huskies host Making Waves in the boys D-I decider on Saturday night.
A victory for the Huskies would give them a fourth title, with the team also winning in 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Only two other H-DNL teams have ever managed an NCS title in soccer, with the Fortuna girls winning in 2017 and the Eureka girls winning a year later.

The H-DNL is guaranteed at least one more championship this weekend when Arcata and Eureka meet in the girls D-I championship game at McKinleyville High on Saturday afternoon.
The Loggers are looking for their second NCS title and the Tigers are looking for their first.
